The SP Daylight 4449 is justly called the world's most beautiful locomotive. In May 1996, it graced the mainline between Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, British Columbia. The scenic wonders of the Pacific Northwest set off the powerful Lima-built giant to distinction. Pentrex covered this incredible journey, from Portland's newly remodeled Union Station to Vancouver and return, capturing some of the most striking images ever recorded of the 4449.

Starting at Brooklyn Yard Roundhouse, we follow the Daylight as it heads up a special train with three domes among its eight cars. The beautiful train is seen at the most interesting and scenic locations: Rocky Point Tunnel, Everett Tunnel, and Seattle Tunnel North Portal; the yards and servicing at Portland, Oregon; Seattle, Washington; and Vancouver, B.C.; hugging the shorelines at Chuckanut Point, Kalama and Tacoma Narrows; at full throttle near Conway and Centralia; and crossing the Serpentine River Trestle.

Back at Union Station, Portland Rail Fair '96 is about to begin, celebrating the Station's 100th Anniversary. Motive power on display includes SP&S 4-8-4 #700, Sumpter Valley 2-8-2 #19, Union Pacific diesel-electric Centennial #6936, and the Queen of the show, #4449. Both #4449 and #700 are under steam, to the delight of the crowds. Daylight to Vancouver is an exciting steam adventure, presented in the style and quality you've come to expect from Pentrex video.
