California's Feather River Canyon - once an active route of passenger trains through the Sierra Nevadas - saw passenger service once again when the Union Pacific Railroad ran excursions through the canyon during the Fourth of July weekend in 1994. The Feather River Special, with 6 dome liners among its 15 passenger cars, was powered by UP's sleek A-B-A set of E-9s.
Pentrex followed the UP train as it made its way from Oroville to Portola on Saturday and Portola to Keddie Wye on Sunday. Blue skies enhanced the beauty of the granite cliffs, tall pines, steep chasms, and the sparkling river below. You'll witness the special at famous locations including Williams Loop, Chandler Creek Bridge, Spanish Creek Trestle, and Keddie Wye. Also featured are the tunnels, the Highline, and the Portola Railroad Museum's restored Western Pacific F-unit. As a special treat, the camera takes you inside E-unit #951 for a cab ride from Portola to Keddie!
The canyon walls echo once more with the sounds of E-9's in action, and a classic streamliner glides smoothly into view. It's all here for you to enjoy on Pentrex's Feather River Canyon E-9s!
