Spokane, Portland & Seattle steam engine 700, a 4-8-4, pulled an 18-car passenger excursion between Vancouver and Spokane, Washington in April, 2001. These still photos are actual scenes ("frame captures") from the Pentrex video Steam to Spokane: SP&S 700.
The 700's crew puts on a great photo runby at Avery, just west of Wishram, Washington.
We follow the steam special as it runs alongside the Columbia River for mile after mile.
After a night in Pasco, the 4-8-4 leads its train into the morning sun at the east end of Pasco Yard.
The excursion train rounds a gentle curve and prepares to duck under Highway 260.
A diesel helper assists the SP&S 700 up Providence Hill.
The third morning finds the train leaving Spokane, passing Sunset Junction...
...and crossing the high bridge over Latah Creek. A diesel helper tags along today.
The 700 speeds across the rolling hills of eastern Washington with its 18-car train.
Steam power returns to Ritzville and darkens the skies as it races through downtown.
