Engine 481 leads a northbound train out of Durango.

The mountainous line includes 2.5% grades and 24-degree curves.

A special photographers' train has taken siding to let Train No. 465 pass, on its way to Silverton.

The railfan special performs a runby at Elk Park.

Deep in the canyon, there's barely room for the track alongside the Animas River.

Arriving trains pass the Silverton depot and continue to the end of track in the center of town.
