Experience the elegant, streamlined passenger trains of the 1950s along Santa Fe's busy mainline called The Pasadena Subdivision. Running from San Bernardino through Pasadena to Los Angeles, this Southern California route offered scenic vistas, historic landmarks, and plenty of classic passenger train action.
Step back to the early 1950s and watch Santa Fe's El Capitan and The Chief along the Pasadena Sub, pulled by gleaming Alco PAs and EMD F-units. Photographer Chet Hogan captured these famous trains at many scenic locations, including the Arroyo Seco Viaduct, South Pasadena's gingerbread depot, and Pasadena-the Station of the Stars. Then join photographer J. Allen Hawkins in the cab of F-7 #314 as it powers The Chief to San Bernardino and over Cajon Pass in the early 1960s. Our train reaches speeds of 95 mph on the doubletrack mainline between San Bernardino and Barstow.
Each frame of 16mm film has been computer enhanced and color corrected, and authentic sound effects have been meticulously added. You're sure to enjoy the sights and sounds of Santa Fe's classic streamliners.
