Pioneers of Electric Railroading (book)

Their Story in Words and Pictures
Edited by John R. Stevens

Learn how the pioneers of electric railroading managed to get streetcars running and keep them going in spite of primitive equipment and lack of funding. Some of the names will be familiar, such as Thomas Alva Edison, Charles J. Van Depoele, and Frank J. Sprague. Many of the names will be only slightly known, or not recognized at all. Yet all of these men made contributions to the advancement of the electric railway. This book makes clear the effect those early electric railways and their inventors had on the technology of moving large numbers of people and the accelerated urban growth which ensued. It's a fascinating story!
