The monorails of Japan are more than "just a ride." They provide vital transportation links to industrial, residential, and rural districts for thousands of commuters. You'll see each system, presented in order of development, from the Ueno Zoo which opened in 1957 to Osaka's 1985 system. Produced by the Monorail Society, this video gives you a fabulous tour of Japan as it follows the various straddle-beam and suspended monorail technologies in use. From the largest system spanning 15 kilometers and 13 stations to the Monkey Park monorail, the fascinating details include tunnels, underground stations, cab rides, steep gradients of 9.72 percent, dual track systems, track switching, and of course, the scenery of Japan!
