Steam-powered engines dominate this World War II era film produced by the Association of American Railroads. It was created to impress audiences with the essential role the railroads played in the war effort. Trains are shown moving troops and military freight on several of the major railroads of the time. The result is a collection of classic scenes. Shots of the Milwaukee Road include the Hiawatha and Box Cabs pulling freight. Pennsy fans will appreciate the view of the steam-powered train going around Horse Shoe Curve and a GG-1 electric. A rare streamlined Hudson locomotive used on the Empire State Express is featured in footage of the New York Central. The few diesels represented are especially interesting since they are very early models. A great treat for steam and early diesel fans!
