The Southern Pacific produced an incredible film of its railroad operations in 1947 to show the public what it takes to move both freight and passengers over one of the nation's largest railroads. This film shows the various jobs that need to be done to keep a giant like the Southern Pacific running smoothly and on time. The film was shot when the railroad was mainly all steam. You'll see Daylights traveling along the coast, Cab Forwards pulling freights, rotaries operating in snow storms over Donner Pass, steam on Tehachapi, and a steady stream of passenger trains.
