Magazine Subscriber Information
In September 1999, Pentrex mailed a postcard to all
subscribers informing them that Pentrex had ceased
publication of RailNews and Vintage Rails, and
that we were searching for a qualified buyer for the
magazines.
Kalmbach Publishing Co., the publisher of Trains and
Classic Trains magazines, emerged as the clear winner.
The following agreement is now in place:
Vintage Rails subscribers automatically receive
Classic Trains for the remainder of their
subscriptions. This began with the Spring 2000 issue of
Classic Trains, which was mailed in January, 2000.
Kalmbach announced that John Gruber, former Editor of
Vintage Rails, would be joining Classic Trains
as Contributing Editor.
RailNews subscribers in the U.S. WHO DID NOT SUBSCRIBE
to Trains, as well as all Canadian and other foreign
RailNews subscribers, automatically receive
Trains magazine for the remainder of their
subscriptions. This began with the February 2000 issue of
Trains, which was mailed in early January, 2000.
RailNews subscribers in the U.S. WHO ALREADY SUBSCRIBED
to Trains received the remaining value of their
RailNews subscription in the form of a Pentrex
merchandise credit. (Any Canadian or other foreign
RailNews subscribers who already subscribed to
Trains had their existing Trains subscription
extended.)
Letters were mailed to each subscriber detailing these
arrangements.
The last issue of Vintage Rails was issue number 20, dated September/October 1999. The last issue of RailNews was issue number 429, dated August 1999.
The entire staff at Pentrex would like to thank you again
for your patience, understanding and support.
